How to Deliver Photos to your Clients

I’ve been asked many times, “Dee what’s the best way to deliver photos to my client? Should I use email or Google Drive?” Ok here’s the thing. Email is a super 20th century thing, and it’s good…… for emailing! And I’m not about to disrespect the good Google, because they provide so much that us creatives find useful for our little businesses. However, Google Drive is awesome for file storage and sharing (note: sharing and delivering are two different things). But neither are appropriate for professional delivery of your photos to clients, and I want to share with you why…

Sending your clients their photos by email or Google Drive or Dropbox is not your best way to deliver your after sales service, and this is a mistake I see photographers make time and time again.

Here are two reasons why it’s not the best way…

#1 You need to Deliver Photos Professionally to your Clients

Sending your clients their photos by email and such like is not a good look and it’s not professional. There you go, I’ve said it. And I say it with a lot of love, because I actually do want you as a photographer to succeed and present yourself the best way.

After you’ve taken the time to be ultra professional at the front end when you’re making the booking, and maintaining your professionalism during the shoot, the after sales is definitely not the time to take your foot off the gas. If anything, you need to ramp up your service in the after sales, because this is the part of the service that is delivered last and most remembered. It’s all too easy to obliterate all your hard work in an instant by sub-standard after sales. So make sure you deliver your photos to your clients in the most professional way, and sending batches of emails is not the best way to do it.

#2 Create Opportunities for Repeat & Referral Business

If you’re not using a professional platform to deliver your photos, you’re cutting yourself from great opportunities to grow your business.

When you do a shoot and deliver your photos to your client, that doesn’t have to be the end of it. In fact, I’m a firm believer in taking action to make ‘forever clients’ by delivering a great service after the shoot. This goes a long way to helping to grow your business, by firstly creating opportunities for repeat business from existing clients.

When you use a professional platform like PixieSet, PicTime or ShootProof you create a world of opportunities to help grow your business. Delivering via professional platform wows your client, after they’ve already been wowed by your photos. To be able to view their photos in a slick and stunning environment adds to your brand and to their enjoyment. This will inspire them to use you again!

Secondly you can create opportunities to grow an audience from your galleries. Using a link to the client gallery makes it easy for your client to share the link with friends and family; and if you’re collecting email addresses in exchange for access to the gallery, you’re starting to build an audience right there, with minimal effort.

Be sure to continue your branded service long after the initial shoot. Inspire your existing clients to (a) use your services again, and (b) share your worth with their friends and families.
